Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 August 2026
FurryJourney is operated by Computing Square (contact@computingsquare.com). We are committed to protecting your privacy while providing the best possible experience on our platform. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
1. Data Controller
The data controller is Computing Square, the company operating FurryJourney, reachable at contact@computingsquare.com. References to "FurryJourney", "we", "us" or "our" in this policy refer to Computing Square.
2. Data We Collect
We collect what the service needs, and nothing more: (a) what you give us — email address, password (stored as a hash, never in clear text), display name, date of birth, your pets' profiles, and the photos, texts and messages you publish or send; (b) what your use produces — posts, likes, comments, favourites, recent searches, accounts you follow, accounts you block and reports you file; (c) technical data needed to run and secure the service — IP address, device and operating system type, request logs, and your notification token if you enable notifications; (d) your location, only if you allow it and only while you are using the app, to show nearby places and to position a place you add. We do not build an advertising profile and we do not infer interests for targeting.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to: run the service (account, posts, messaging, favourites); show what is relevant where you are, if you allowed location access; keep the community safe — handling reports, blocks, content takedowns and sanctions; send the notifications you enabled and the emails the service requires (verification, password reset); answer your requests; and meet our legal obligations. Sponsored cards may appear in the feed: they are chosen by slot, never from your profile or behaviour, and you can report them like any other content. We do not run targeted advertising and we do not sell your data.
4. Legal Basis (GDPR)
For people in the European Economic Area: processing is based on performance of the contract (providing the service you asked for — account, posts, messaging), on your consent for what is optional (location, notifications), on legitimate interests (service security, moderation, abuse prevention, fixing faults), and on legal obligations. You may withdraw your consent at any time, from the app's settings or your device's, without affecting the lawfulness of processing already carried out.
5. Sharing Your Data
We share your data with: (a) other members — what you publish publicly is visible to everyone, and your display name goes with your content; (b) our technical processors, strictly to operate the service: infrastructure and database hosting, media storage, service email delivery, and Stripe for a donation made from this website. They act on our behalf, under contract, and are required to protect your data at least as well as described here; (c) the competent authorities where the law requires it or to protect people's safety. We use no advertising network, no third-party behavioural analytics, and we neither sell nor rent your data. The mobile app embeds no third-party measurement or advertising kit and does not track your activity across other apps or websites.
6. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, from the app or from this website: your profile is anonymised immediately — email address, username and display name are replaced, and signing in becomes impossible — and your media are queued for purge, which is drained every hour. Contributions made to shared spaces (collaborative listings, comments) may remain online, detached from your identity, so that other members' content is not left full of holes. Technical logs and data we are legally required to keep (accounting for a donation, answering a lawful request) are kept for the period the applicable rules set.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion ("right to be forgotten"), restrict or object to processing, receive your data in a portable format, and withdraw a consent you gave. Deleting your account and exporting your data are done straight from the app, without going through us. For anything else, write to contact@computingsquare.com: we answer within 30 days.
8. Cookies & Tracking
This website uses strictly necessary cookies and local storage: session, language, display preferences. No advertising pixels, no third-party tracking cookies, no behavioural analytics. The mobile app shows no tracking prompt (App Tracking Transparency) because it tracks nothing: it sends no identifier to third parties for advertising, which is also what its privacy manifest declares on the App Store.
9. Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, disclosure or destruction. However, no system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach that poses a high risk to your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
10. Contact
For any privacy-related questions or requests, contact Computing Square at contact@computingsquare.com. For formal data protection enquiries under GDPR, please indicate "Data Protection Request" in your email subject.
